Here's a compilation of various photos taken along sections of the Pacific Crest and John Muir Trails that my father and I have hiked in the last three years. We have hiked 250 miles of the trail so far, and have encountered quite a variety of landscapes and ecosystems. Some of these images are from the most recent hike that we finished last weekend.
250 miles is a a lot of backpacking. I used to backpack a lot back in the Boy Scouts. (Where "Go take a hike!" had a different connotation.) Seeing these shots makes me miss it. Beautiful landscapes, my favorite being the middle top. Great images, I'd love to see more if you have them.

Thanks for taking a look! I was in Boy Scouts myself and I find myself missing those experiences. I was very active in both my troop and in the Order of the Arrow.
OA was the shit! The ceremonies, the tribal dances, the peace pipe, man, OA was the best part of scouting. I still remember my induction like it was last week.

OA most definitely was the shit! I took part in both Ordeal and Brotherhood ceremonies, dressed in full regalia. I eventually received Vigil Honor and I'll never forget that experience for the rest of my life.
Never was a Vigil, but I had the coolest Brotherhood Ceremony. The guys marching the brotherhood candidates off into the woods left early. I missed them by maybe ten minutes while I was hanging with the other guys in my Lodge learning the sneak dance. Since they were all Brotherhood and dressed in regalia, they just inducted me right there at the campsite. Those guys were ace.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
